Accommodation - Elegant Traditional Chalet
Away from the busy main resorts Samoëns is a breath of fresh mountain air. The French proudly describe it as one of their monuments historiques, that just happens to be attached to a great ski area. An hour by car from Geneva, this ancient village, famed for its stonemasons, is part of the Grand Massif. Consisting of five resorts – Flaine, Samoëns, Morillon, Sixt and Les Carroz. The Grand Massif offers 265 km of piste, 80% of which are North facing (so hold the snow well).

You will be staying in an elegant traditional chalet, 5 minutes stroll from the centre of Samoëns. Set out over 3 floors, this light, airy, extremely spacious chalet is centred around a very sociable ground floor space: Four large sofas circle around an open fireplace, which flows into a large dining area with an impressive 12 seat oak table.

The rooms are all spacious and have en-suite bathrooms. The chalet is surrounded by fir trees, boasts stunning views of the Criou mountain and has a covered balcony which leads to a luxury hot tub. The chalet also has heated ski storage and a boot room, with internal access.

Food - Plant Based Goodness
Caroline Ospalla will be your chef for the week! Caroline has been catering for retreats since realising she wanted to combine her love of travel with providing healthy food for like-minded people in beautiful settings.

The food during your retreat will comprise of the freshest, seasonal local produce, and, as you will discover, the local markets in this region are second to none. In true alpine style you will have a fully catered breakfast, followed by the traditional post skiing afternoon tea and cake next to the roaring fire. Each evening you will be treated to an exquisite three course meal and complimentary wine.

You can expect to enjoy delicious plant based meals, all lovingly prepared by Caroline, using the best ingredients, and designed to be as nutrient rich as possible. Not only that but you will be dining in the mountain environment, surrounded by nature enjoying the feeling that good food can give you.
Skiing - Fun For All Levels
No matter whether you are a complete novice or have been hitting the snow since before you could walk, this trip will cater for you. One of the reasons we chose Samoëns is due to the wide range of slopes available.

The Grand Massif is the 4th largest linked ski area of France. Suitable for all standards of skiers and riders it has 265 km of pistes, 70 ski lifts, 141 slopes, 1 snowpark with a boardercross and pistes with varying levels of difficulty. It culminates at 2500 m altitude, and is surrounded by spectacular scenery (the Grand Massif faces the french side of Mont-Blanc, offering a breathtaking panoramic view).

For those who require lessons this can organised for you (not included in the package). If you can ski or snowboard already then you will have the option to join us for each morning for a group ski around the mountain. In the afternoon it will be free skiing, or perhaps apres if you fancy relaxing in the sunshine!!!
Why A Ski Retreat?
It's Awesome Fun
Get out in the fresh mountain air, recharge your batteries and invigorate your well-being. Release the stress of daily life and workplace hassles by flying down the snow covered mountains. There is nothing to compare to the exhilaration you’ll feel when gliding over fresh snow!
Enjoyable Exercise
Swap the crowded gym for a week flying down open mountain pistes. Not only will you get the enjoyment of skiing/boarding, you’ll get a first rate total body workout out in the fresh mountain air. It works the core muscle groups of your body, helps you to improve your balance, posture and increase body strength.
Connect To Nature
There is nothing better than standing on the top of the mountain and taking in the amazing scenery before shooting down the piste to have some fun. Nothing compares to the feeling of crisp, pure mountain air on your face, it’s unlike anything you will ever experience in the city. Skiing/boarding gives you the opportunity to interact with nature in a way that you simply cannot find in many other activities. You learn to use the natural terrain features to move down the mountain.
Learn Something New
Skiing and snowboarding provide you the ideal opportunity to learn and experience something new every single time that you are on the mountain. This is true no matter whether you are a complete newbie and require the help of an experienced instructor, or you are a veteran skier who is ready to tackle all the terrain features that our retreat has to offer.
Meet New People
One of the easiest ways to meet new people, is by sharing a common interest. What better way to do that than on the mountain with other like-minded skiers/boarders who share the same passion as you do. And what better way to bond with new friends than by enjoying shared experiences? Explore new terrain, challenge each other to take new routes and explore hidden powder fields together.
More Than Just Skiing
Once the lifts shut, if you’re not caught up in an après bar somewhere, it’s time to make the most of the rejuvenating qualities of the mountains. Whether it’s a scenic walk, or a trip to a local spa, the health and wellness options are endless. As are the options to try activities like ice skating, dog sledding, paragliding, ice diving, ice driving, and snowshoeing. But if all else fails, the chalet’s hot tub with a glass of something fizzy is always a good place to start.

Meet The Team
Simon & John
Both former Royal Marine Commandos, our journey started in 2009 whilst serving with UK Special Forces. Working in a job that placed huge demands on the body and mind, and where second place could result serious injury or death, sparked a deep interest in human performance. Now our passion is sharing the lessons we have learned with as many people as possible, to help everyone achieve the best health they can.

Drawing from expertise gained during our military careers we are also dedicated to creating bespoke, high quality training & experience packages that are fun and enriching. Between us we have traveled and worked across the globe, from patrolling under humid jungle canopies in Malaysia, climbing the High Tatras in Slovakia, to skiing the icy snowfields of Norway.
Caroline Ospalla
With a no nonsense approach to both life and the food she cooks, Caroline is our chef supreme! Growing up the granddaughter of holocaust survivors instilled a deep feeling that food should be a celebration. This led to an interest in nutrition and its power to heal the body, something she developed further through years of study alongside honing her craft across the world.

As well as working all over the UK, Caroline has spent time cultivating her creative talents in Majorca, Ibiza and Morocco running workshops, catering for retreats, teaching classes and private cheffing for people with chronic illness as well as one or two A list celebs. This passion and dedication to culinary excellence is used to create stunning dishes from fresh produce and simple natural ingredients, that are tasty, nutritious and satisfying.

FAQs
Why don't I just go on a holiday?
You will still be getting a fantastic holiday, but also much more than that. Retreat comes from the Latin verb “to pull back.” So, a retreat is a place where you can pull back from the world. It gives you the space to focus on you and your health so you can regroup and re-energise. Something we all need from time to time.

We keep the numbers on our retreat purposefully low to ensure you get exactly what you need from the week. The spectacular location and amazing food also deserve a special mention. Staying in a traditional traditional ski chalet, combined with eating delicious home cooked meals each day, creates a unique experience.
What if I don't have anyone to go with?
Escape with a friend, as a couple or on your own, however you do it the experience will be equally rewarding. In fact, the week is the perfect opportunity to get away on your own.

On our retreat you are guaranteed a nurturing environment, great accommodation and amenities. Even better, you will be accompanied by like-minded people, potentially making friends that will last you a lifetime.

It can be a little intimidating to meet new people, but you don’t have to be outgoing or socially skilled, the experiences you have will automatically bring you closer to the others you are sharing them with.

Take the step, and you will gain a new found freedom, you can holiday on your terms, your way. The joy of going solo is your programme can be as packed or as relaxing as you want. The group size we take means you get the best of both worlds. Being in a social environment that creates a great community feeling, but with enough space to not be on top of each other.
Can I come if I can’t ski or I’m unfit?
The Natural Edge ski retreat is for all levels of ability and fitness!

Lessons can be booked for those who would like to learn to ski or snowboard (not included in the package), or for those who simply want to improve their technique. For everyone else you can choose to ski as much or as little as you like. There will never be any judgement on what level you’re at. You will be leaving at the end of the week having had a great time and full of energy.
What will a typical day look like?
Remember, this is your week. You can do as much or as little as you like.

Each day will start with a delicious breakfast in the chalet, before wandering to the ski lifts which are located 5 minutes walk away. Those having lessons can meet their instructor (not included in the package), and those wishing to free ski can head off at their leisure. Everyone else is welcome to spend the morning skiing with Simon and/or John. Each day a new route will be planned, exploring the Grand Mastiff. After a relaxing lunch on the mountain people there will then be free to ski as they wish.

Once the lifts close it will be back to the chalet for some afternoon tea and cake followed by a soak in the hot tub, enjoying stunning views of the Criou mountain. Evenings will be spent indulging in a three course meal around a roaring fire in the chalet. After that it could be after dinner games, or perhaps a walk into Samoens for some local apres!
